Gerry has worked in Corporate Finance for nearly 20 years and joined Anthem as Senior Advisor at the end of 2008. For 15 years Gerry had been Vodafone's Group Treasurer, which included responsibility for Group Insurance, and concurrently for four years the CFO of Vodafone's central services subsidiary which provided marketing, HQ and technology services. Previously Gerry worked for Kingfisher, Merrill Lynch and Stoy Hayward.
He is also the President of the UK based Association of Corporate Treasurers until May 2010, has two non-executive directorships at a Maltese insurance group and at a charity caring for people with autism and is an Associate Fellow at Oxford Said Business School.
During his time at Vodafone his role as Group Treasurer was an integral part of Vodafone’s geographic expansion and Gerry was part of a small internal team which managed the $125bn acquisition of AirTouch in the US in 1999 and the $180bn acquisition of Mannesmann in Germany a year later as well as countless other deals. During his career Gerry was responsible for raising over $100bn of bank loans globally including the €30bn Mannesmann acquisition facility which ranks amongst the largest ever bank loans, over $50bn bond issues globally and one of the largest ever equity cash placings (£3.5bn) to fund a Japanese acquisition. He also developed one of the most respected Treasury teams and in 2008 won two Treasury awards, the EuroFinance Award for Treasury Excellence and the Association of Corporate Treasurers’ Treasury Team of the Year. He also sponsored the programme to develop Vodafone’s 4,500 global finance staff, was a Board member of many companies including Vodafone’s listed Japanese subsidiary and a UK pension trustee.
Gerry has a FCT from the Association of Corporate Treasurers, an MBA from Cranfield School of Management, is a Chartered Accountant and has a Mathematics degree from Exeter University.
